Just got my A1C results.

7.0

and in brackets (HI)

I always thought that 7 was good. Anything about 8 was considered as too high. And back in the day I was told that 7 was brilliant. Things keep changing  Of course it could be lower granted, but I'm pleased with that, I was expeting it too be much higher!

hi, im not sure but mine was 6.9 and the receptionist told me it was normal!

think and def not sure but think type 1 bg is normally higher than type 2 as we do produce some insulin, might now use is properly so i would say 7 would be good 🙂

have a good day

officially I think the target is 6.5%, but 7 is very good 🙂

That's a good result Sam, well done! Especially with all the stress you will have been having lately with exams and whatnot!. I posted this earlier about HbA1c and why it's important to get it down:

I found this very good page about HbA1c. It includes a graph showing how the risk of complications increase with higher levels:

http://www.diabetesuffolk.com/Complications/HbA1c.htm

You can see that the graph starts to curve up just before 7.0%, then climbs quite steeply.

I certainly wouldn't consider 7.0 high though!

7.0 is the target that the medical people consider to be OK. My GP was happy when I got mine to 6.8%.

However, I wanted mine to be lower and got further improvements to 5.7 & 5.5. Due to receive my latest results tomorrow and hoping for lower still.

Keep shooting for lower - good control of blood glucose does no harm to anyone.

Fingers crossed for you then wallycorker! The page I included says non-diabetics are between 4 and 6, so that is what I aim for, then I will feel that I am at no greater risk than them. My last one was 5.3 but I expect my next to be a little higher as I had quite a few hypos before the first one.

:D
Thanks!
I'm really happy with it considering everything that's happened. Since my last hospital appt I've been keeping a very close eye on things. Unfortunately am going to have to wait until I get wherever I'm going with the move to talk to a new specialist/DSN about it all, but I'm confident now that uni is over then everything can finally start sorting itself back out :D

Well done Sam 7 is good.

my DSN said that 7 was perfect. she said that 5 or lower means that we are having hypos and she hates them (i said try having them lol)

great result.

I wonder if the 'hi' refers to something else other than 'high'. I'm suggesting that the phlebotomist was trying to say hello or something but I wonder if it's something else we're missing, maybe something to do with the new hba1c reporting or something.....

(just thinking out loud!)

Wooopppeeee! Thats brilliant! Well done and keep it up!:DBev

Wow 🙂 I'm well impressed! I've been battling with mine for years and never got anywhere near 7! My lowest, whihc was my last one was 8, and only so low due to hypos balancing out the highs I think!

I would agree with the comments - ideally 6.5 is perfect but 7's damn close! Keep up the good work!

well done 7 is great mine was 7.2 prev 9.4 in jan x

Thanks everyone :D I'm really pleased, though I think its because the past few weeks i've been running pretty low. But hey, its all good :D I'll just have to try even harder to get it slightly lower for next time!!!!

ok so now i'm worried. very worried. my son ben,s first result 2mths post diagnosis was 9.something. 2nd reslt 2 mths later was higher but wouldn't say how much!! have carb counted to within an inch of my life so we'll see what 2nd july holds!!
