hi I've been diagnosed type 1 almost 3 months. My hba1c result was 115, what should it be? Thanks !

Quite a lot lower, but don't stress this will come down with time. Mine was higher than that on diagnosis so, as I say don't stress about, focus on your insulin and getting that right and your hba1c will sort itself out.

Hello there Gemma.

48mmol/mol (or 6.5% in 'old money) is your eventual target. Anything below that means that your control is sufficiently good for there to be no worries about possible complications.

But, it is early days for you and so don't worry about being so high for now. You should be able to bring it down.

Andy 🙂

Thank you for your replies I've got my next one in February time should I see a good improvement if I've had quiet good control??

Hi Gemma, it takes a while to get good control... This is a marathon, not a sprint.... The main focus is to get your daily BG readings under control (and that will reflect in the A1c)

Thank you it's good to here it can take time to have good control !

Hi Gemma - to begin with, often your insulin production hasn't finished completely so it will still produce some of its own - but you can't measure when or how much it might add, so it does make 'control' quite difficult to begin with. For some unfathomable reason many decades ago someone decided it was a good idea to call this the 'honeymoon' period. They must have had an absolutely vile honeymoon, that's all I can put it down to - I enjoyed mine and as far as I'm concerned that's precisely what they are for!

Also stuff like female hormones can send you high or low and in any case to begin with it's all a matter of guesswork and doing what you think anyway. So - it's never an instant fix - and certainly not something to worry about at this juncture.

Do you have easy access to your DSN for dosing advice whenever you need it?

I always wondered what the honeymoon period meant! Thank you for that and yes my dsn is brilliant🙂 x
