HbA1c question

I know it's an overall result from the last 3 months, so which dates would this include if my HbA1c was done on 1st Dec?

Gill 🙂

September, October and November I would think Whiskysmum.

It's based on the lifespan of red blood cells (usually approx 120 days). Since not all blood cells will last the full 120 days there are likely to be slightly more 'new' ones so the test is slightly weighted to more recent weeks.

Oh, and of course if you have anaemia your blood cells don't last long enough, so the test should be replaced with the fructosamine alternative
