That would certainly help and the way to achieve that as well as lower your blood glucose level is to reduce the carbohydrates in your diet, not just sugar and sugary drinks and foods but look at all the carbs as they convert to glucose.
Your HbA1C is not desperately high but high enough to take seriously.
As well as the Learning Zone you might want to look at this link as it suggest a low carb regime (less than 130g carb per day) which many find successful.
Many people don't realise the amount of carbs which are in the every day staples but which are problems for people ith Type 2 diabetes. A careful watch on those potatoes, bread, rice, pasta. which would be healthy choices for non diabetics are no longer so.
