HBA1c Estimate and the results are in!

So I went to the hypertension clinic today and all was well! 🙂

Kidneys normal,

Protein in urine - Trace
Blood pressure was a little high (White coat syndrome?)
Cholesterol - 4.8 he said this was fine, but my reading suggests in some places this is OK, and some I should be below 4 not 5. Sorry I dont know the break downs.
Liver function - normal

Now some of you may have read my highly complicated 😛 estimate of my HBA1c as below. Breaking down the total hours for 3 months and coming up with my avergage which back worked to 6.2%

Im please to announce that im not to bad at my job as an estimator and my hba1c was 6.3%! Im very pleased and relieved with this. (I did do a rejig of the estimate a day or so later from the post and came up with 6.3 so i feel even more smug about it, but thats asking a bit much to believe that!!)

If the last weeks anything to go by ill be around 7.5% next time so ive got some work to do and quick but its given me a boost and I know ill beat whatevers going on at the moment.

I think a big thing for me has been cracking the night time results.

Ie going to bed around 5 or 6mmol, and waking up there too. Although im still not really where I want to be I have at least improved to single figures instead of teens on waking, Im alot better than I was. The way I see it if you can crack sleepy time, thats a third of your day sorted.

Another thing is been consious of what my bloods are doing at 1 hours after eating not just 2. So a bit of experimenting and working out which ones spike me. Ie someone suggested here adding a few nuts to cereals to add some fat and slow the breakdown of carbs. Ive found this helps me from spiking early into the teens at 1 hour and then falling back down to earth at 2 hours.

I try and balance whatever i eat with around 15 - 20 g of fat for lunchs and dinenrs. This helps slow the carb breakdown again. So if I was eating a really healthy dinner with veg, some potatoes and a bit of chicken, id try and add something with a bit of fat and it does seem to work for me (Although not always)

As im seeming to find I *think* exercise effects me big time... Ive been a bit lacking on the exercise front last week and everythings "Gone to pot".

and finally I guess compared to last year Ive cut down the carbs from 250g to around 130 - 150g and it seems to make it more managable..

Those are the things ive learnt from hours and hours of experimenting. Ive done lots of testing to see how long my insulin really lasts in my system, and percentages burnt after each hour. This helps me make decisions on corrections. Ive done lots of testing with my timing of injections. I now try and inject a minimum of 30 minutes before eating, however most mornings its now an hour.

The thing ive learnt most I guess is the more you can elarn about YOUR diabetes and the way YOUR body reacts to certain things the better you can deal with it.

the weekends I suppose is my weak spot, hopefully something this pump will help out with.....🙂

I really hope you notice a difference witht he carb intake going down! & a combination of the pump to help, im sure it will. Weekends are a killer but we all need a break from it now and again. If i have a bad weekend, i try and make extra effort to make sure im really really good in the week.

Lol, Maybe ill look at setting up a spreadsheet and see if it works for anyone else... However that might be a little sad and I have work to do at work now!! Yay!
