Hello everyone. I have been diabetic for the last 3 years and thought I was controlling it well. I have just had my annual check and my hb1ac is 59. I feel as though I have been complacent and need to get back on track. I have lost almost 3 stone however I do very little exercise and because I feel well I have been eating more chocolate and bread than I should. I hope you can give me some help with getting back on track. Sorry to be so long winded.
Thanks for your reply Martin. I used to self test however stopped about a month ago as I was never below 9 no matter how much I tried to be good and it was stressing me out. I will start testing again and try to stick to a low carb diet. My DN is giving me a call tomorrow so hopefully she will give me some help. I am currently taking 3 Metformin a day and expecting that to change once DN calls. I know its all down to me but I'm really struggling.
Funny you should say that. I decided this morning to exercise more and have given my kitchen a thorough clean. My BG level went from 16 to 7.5 in 2 hours. Just need to stay motivated and I'll get there. My DN also called today and increase my Metformin to 4x500 a day.
Hi Trish, I can imagine how frustrated you must feel but chin up, you can pull it back and you know how to do that.....and....you are doing it! Be proud of yourself for taking action and for sharing here with us
You got this girl, just think how amazing your house will look 😉
Hi Trish, Well done on losing 3 stone. You've clearly got determination and motivation, so I'm sure your numbers will come down. Regarding exercise, I was doing absolutely nothing when diagnosed. I had been very active, playing competitive table tennis and power walking until my hip finally gave out in 2016. By this year I needed a stick or crutches to get around. But my DN advised me to try Aquafit, as did my cousin. I was very dubious, thinking I couldn't stand more than a few minutes, never mind an hour long class. I need not have worried. The water is a great support and I sailed through the class, no problems - you do as much as you can. OK, I was stiff the next day, but I've been fine since, and have built up to 3 classes a week. It gets you moving in a nice social group of people - we sing along to the music (badly!). Some go on for coffee afterwards. At 69 I'm one of the youngest and 5 weeks in I am more flexible and walking better. So if you can find a local class, and can fit it in, please consider giving it a go. Good luck
