Hi,

I was diagnosed with T2 just over a week ago and am going for my first Hb1ac next week, do I have to have it done at a certain time of day like the fasting one?

Thanks 🙂

Jocoll

Don't no about others but my hba1c is taken at same time as blood glucose and something else, both times fasting and I book it first thing so as not to feel to weak and shaky etc with not eating til much later
I'm two months ahead of u, lots of great info and support here...all the best

Hi Jocoll

No the HbA1c is very different. You don't need to fast for it either (though sometimes the blood for it taken alongside other tests, some of which might need to be fasting, check the appointment notes!). The test measures how much sugar has 'stuck' to the haemoglobin in your bloodstream. Since the blood cells involved last around 120 days the test gives an indication of your overall control over the last 2-3 months (slightly weighted toward the most recent few weeks)

Hi Jocoll, welcome to the forum 🙂 As has been said, you don't need to fast for the HbA1c. If you have any other questions, please let us know - you might like to browse our Useful links thread
