Hb1ac not dropped as much I hoped

Hi I have been on Mounjaro since 9th September, have lost 2st 1.5lbs to date (2/1/25). My first hb1ac dropped from 8% to 7.4%. I was booked in for a repeat hb1ac on 3rd Feb however due to a mix up I ended up having it done along with tests for other things on 6th November.

Unfortunately everything bar the hb1ac came back. It was showing on the system as not even received by the lab! I saw my GP 20th Jan who brought the hb1ac for the 3rd Feb to Tuesday 21st next day.

I have received the result for this via the NHS app however it's not dropped as much as I hoped for- from 7.4% to 7.3%. Was hoping for a bigger drop as this would hopefully result in my Dapagliflozin/Metformin being reduced whenIhavemy review on 10th March. I'm sure it's not low enough for this to happen, could be wrong.

Congrats on the weight loss. Sounds like Mounjaro is working well for you in that respect and hope it continues to do so.

Obviously your recent HbA1c will have covered the Christmas period. Could that account for the lack of improvement or have you been ill recently as again, that can raise levels and make things look less good.

I would doubt that a health care professional would be overly keen to reduce your medication with that result, but keep at it as the important thing is that there is a reduction and your risk of developing complications is being reduced.

For anyone else reading this 7.3% is 56mmols/mol.... just to save you looking up a converter as I had to. The old % readings don't mean anything to me, so I have to check.

Hi @HalfpipMarathon, I think you could look at this a bit more positively. You got a good result after three months and that is where you really put in the hard work to bring it down and under control. Having been ill, which could result in widely varying results as your body tries to make things better, you still managed to get a reduction and even if it is only 0.1% it is still a far better result than having it go back up by 0.2 or 0.3% so I say pat yourself on the back and focus on the next set of tests remembering that if you are still not fully recovered any improvement in your HbA1c is a big result.

Well done on your weight loss @HalfpipMarathon

Sounds like the meds have been working well for you. Sorry that your most recent wasn’t as low as you were hoping for. Sometimes these changes don’t seem to happen in a steady linear way do they?

Hope your appointment goes well in March.

Thank you. The weight loss is a bonus as I am on it to reduce my hb1ac which is working just this last one hadn't reduced as much as I hoped.

I haven't been unwell. I actually lost weight following Xmas. My GP reports both in Mmols/mol and %

Thank you. It might be because it wasn't fully 3 months after the last hb1ac check (was due to a miscommunication re blood tests) so possibly could have been better after 3 months but won't know until the next one around May now.

The Mounjaro has been very effective in reducing my appetite and hence improving my overall blood sugar so far. The weight loss is a bonus as not primary reason for being on Mounjaro.
