Hi Ibby. Carbs raise our blood sugars, so need to cut down on bread, rice, potatoes & pasta as well as the usual sweet sugary things. Does your husband test his own blood sugars? If your GP hasn't supplied him with a meter, you can buy one. This way he will see how food affects his blood sugars & what he can & can't eat.

Ketones are a by-product of the body not having enough insulin circulating - or the body even with shedloads of insulin not being able to operate properly - which pass into the bloodstream, turn it acidic and start REALLY damaging the internal organs, if they aren't got rid of (by reducing the blood sugar asap and also drinking a load of plain water cos they flush out via the bladder) as soon as possible.

However unless he's nauseous and falling asleep every few minutes perhaps she didn't think testing for ketones was urgent?

I agree with Mark wholeheartedly foodwise - but where did he see this nurse - and what did SHE suggest your husband did?

He saw the nurse at dr surgery today she said he had to see the diabetic clinic nurse at the hospital which he is under as they sort all the medication
He's been depressed and off his diet for a while in sept he was put on bydureon injections once a week as his hb1 ac was 65 it makes him feel sick for a little while after taking it.
He hasn't tested for about 2 months
He dosent feel ill of tired. The nurse said he had to take a sample and she would test for ketones but he must get the hb1ac down
