hi guys I’m having abit of trouble getting my evening insulin ratios right iv managed to get my morning and day time ratios pretty much right currently mornings is 1:20 for carbs and 1:4 insulin sensitivity and day time is 1:25 for carbs and 1:4 sensitivity but I can’t seem to get my evening ratios right they were working on 1:15g for carbs and 1:3 sensitivity when I first got diagnosed then had to change it to 1:20g and 1:4 because I kept going low but now I can’t seem to get it right if I leave it at 1:20g and 1:4 my sugars seem to be high two hours after eating and when I try 1:15g and 1:4 I go to low, I tried 1:20g and 1:3.5 for sensitivity this evening which I had 40g of carbs for but when I tested my sugars two hours later they were at 12.6 so is there anyway to calculate your ratios for different times in the day because I don’t have any idea what to adjust and I’m sick of every evening being a trial and error of over dosing and going low or under dosing and having to guess how much to take to correct

Thanks guys

Hi Daniel. I get miles better results on a pump. Nothings perfect but is better for me. Good luck

Yeah iv heard pumps are a good option but I don’t mind injecting I’m just struggling with getting my evening ratios right

Hi Daniel. If it was me and 1:20 was not enough and 1:15 too much much I'd try something in between.

Hi Daniel
You’ve mentioned being high after two hours but to check ratios it’s really the four+ hour mark that tells you if your ratio is right as the insulin still has quite a bit of work to do after two.
If your level isn’t back to within 1 or 2 of the pre-meal level after 4+ hours (depending how long the bolus insulin normally takes in your case) then I’d suggest as Matt says trying 1:17. If it is, then the timing of the bolus might need adjusting to try and reduce the spike without giving you a hypo later.
Have you been on a DAFNE course or something similar?

I agree with Radders and couldn't tell anyone even under pain of death what my 2 hour post prandial BGs are since I never test them - unless I've eaten something pretty unusual that I'm not at all sure of the carb value of - the premeal bolus still has another 2 and a half hours to run and although the last hour's activity might be minor - the next hour plus certainly ain't.

thanks for all the help and advice guys, iv adjusted my ratios and they seem to be ok at the moment 🙂
