Just having a think, i'm looking round on diabetesgenes.org all about MODY and pinpointing useful things to print off for my GP when I finally get around to discussing contacting them for testing... and well if it isn't MODY i'm going to be very upset! I feel i've really got my hopes up here. I mean most things about me fit it perfectly but my parents aren't diabetic. My nan is, and even so she's 'borderline' so that makes me wonder maybe my dad is. I mean would it be possible to skip diagnosis right up til your 56 just cause you lead an active lifestyle? Who knows! Ok i'm rambling a bit.

But if it isn't MODY then its probably going to be slow onset type 1 meaning my pancreas is 100% gonna give up on me one day haha. Its not like I haven't been there with injections etc so i'm not worried about that. I'm slightly worried about things that come with them like weight gain, carb counting (which I wouldn't mind learning now even!) and not being able to drink. I think that all understandable.

And if i'm not either Slow Onset T1 oorrrrr MODY then what the hell am I! O_o just a mutant human being haha. Maybe I was a bird in another life ... their blood sugars are twice as high as humans 🙂

Have you tried the MODY probability calculator to see what it comes out with?

http://www.diabetesgenes.org/content/mody-probability-calculator

From what I read somewhere (and this is from memory soI could be hazy), 50% of MODY are diagnosed before they are 30 and 95% are diagnosed before 55. So that does give some scope for some not getting diagnosed till much later.

Yeahh I've read that too, I also read that grandparents are also often not been diagnosed til later in life - I guess because testing etc wasn't as good or maybe not as common.

The probability counter told me 75.5% so thats pretty high! Except obviously i've been on insulin and come off of it again which it wouldn't take into account.

Hope you get some results soon. It is a pain not knowing for certain. Ask about doing a carb counting course. You can't loose anything for asking and it might even help you.
