Finally had my appointment with the DSN...except I should have seen the GP first! What a joke. You would think they would know what their own procedures are!

Anyway, so that it wasn't a complete waste of time, the DSN did my BP...130/80. And she checked my feet?!

She told me not to be alarmed at the diagnosis (no really!?) and that I didn't have to cut anything out, just eat in moderation...does she think I eat like a pig every day or something? I know I need to lose weight, but its very hard to get the weight to shift. I can be on a diet and not lose any weight.

She told me the GP is going to start me on Metformin tomorrow...

My triglycerides level was quite high...will have to discuss this with the GP tomorrow.

I think what has made me😱 the most, is the fact she told me not to cut anything out...she has given me the impression the meds will cure this problem...however...I don't get that impression from here!

I'm still a newbie to this, but I think she probably was trying to say you should be eating a healthy diet anyway, with a treat every now and again (as in moderation) - the medication will help, but if you do eat healthily, and keep an eye on your BG levels, i'm led to believe you may be able to eventually reduce / stop the medication - IF your levels get to a stage where they are in the "normal" category.

Was anything said about your levels being so high? I suppose that the GP will discuss that with you if not. You can eat anything you want - as long as your body can tolerate it well and it doesn't raise your blood glucose levels to much 🙂 I hope this is what she meant 😉

All she said was to continue as I am. Concerns me as she is the DSN! Surely she should be saying what I should be doing to help lower my levels. I hit 24 again last night...
When they did the test, it came back as 13.3...I am presuming this isn't the HBA1C test, and just a fasting test. If it was a fasting test, it makes me a little concerned now that I am never lower than 14-15 in the morning, and I am hitting 24 quite a bit....

Be interesting to see the GP tomorrow and see what she has to say.

I suspect that the nurse is not a DSN, but a practice nurse who has done a couple of days training on diabetes - DSNs spend years on degree courses to gain their knowledge. Her comments reflect a lack of understanding of what the numbers mean and how important it is to get them under control. If the GP shows a similar lack of understanding then I would look fr another GP pronto!

I shall see how things go in the morning...i have a sneaky feeling the GP will be just as useless....the last time i saw her, she said to stop testi g my BG as there was no point....oh but to give her her due...she did tell me to cut out carbs....
