Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 2 years ago and managed , but in Feb this year my blood sugar shot up to 60 and was put onto Empagliflozin. However, I had to stop this after 3 weeks as it affected my renal function, I already have Stage 3 renal damage and have low renal function so not ideal. My GP consulted the diabetic specialist at the local hospital and taking into account my other health problems he advised Linagliptin , which I am now taking. What I would like to ask the forum is, I have been given no advice on how much carbohydrate I can have in a day, to be honest I haven't really been given any advice. I completed the DESMOND course last year which was OK but very generalized. I cannot increase my fluids has my Renal Consultant only allows me 1,600mls a day. I am at a total loss about what to do, any advice would be most welcome

Hi I'm newly diagnosed type 2 I think the recommended carbs a day is no more than 130g which doesn't sound alot. I have just registered on the nutracheck app which works things out for you. Hope this helps

Hi Denise

Welcome to the forum 🙂

I’ve taken the liberty of updating your username as it seemed to be rather too close to an email address - which might have been scraped for spam!

What I would like to ask the forum is, I have been given no advice on how much carbohydrate I can have in a day, to be honest I haven't really been given any advice.

There isn’t a hard and fast figure, as different people will have different ‘tolerances’, and some will have more ability to cope with carbohydrates from some sources, rather than others. And these differences don’t always follow the ‘guidelines’!

Many on the forum who are interested in a low or moderate carb approach, start with a figure of around 130g, and take it from there - depending on the results they get.

Some find it very helpful to have a BG meter to check their individual responses to different foods and use the results to modify their menu - ‘eating to their meter’ 🙂
