So I filled in the relevant medical form to the DVLA. I had to delare my diabetes and mental illness. I did this in October. I called them before Xmas and they had received letter from my specialist regarding my mental health and said they wouldn't be looking into my diabetes until I've been cleared to drive from a mental health perspective. So I called them today and they said that they may not need to look into my diabetes if I'm well controlled. I asked the lady if she was sure and she said yes. I told them I was on insulin and she said they don't always contact the doctor. Has anyone else had that experience? Have I been told the right thing?

They should contact your Dr because you are T1 on insulin. They get in touch with a few depts. Good luck with things 🙂

Last time I renewed my licence, I heard back from them so quickly with the new one, I doubt they had time to contact my GP.

It may depend on how the forms are dealt with at your drs. If you are know by them & they know what you are like medically . Who knows. it did not take long for my licence to get sorted. It could be sitting at the bottom of the pile 😱:D

They don't always contact your doc - ever since I passed my test, they have only contacted him once. I know this cos apparently, they have to tell you!

I've never had them check with my GP regarding my fitness to drive due to my diabetes. I've held a licence for about 37 years.

Thanks guys. So I may have been told the right thing! Stranger things have happened. Lol.
