I had a shop bought ready made curry for my tea tonight with about 3 tbps of rice and about 1/4 of a naan bread and a glass of red wine. My BS reading before the meal was 5.4 then i tested after one hour and it was 9.1 then 2 hours later it was 7.6 - is this classed as a 'spike'?

Drink spiked was the first thing that came to my mind too, glad it was not that. Sounds like it was a sugar spike.

Hi Carina, it's most likely that the naan bread was the main culprit as it can send your levels up very quickly. Shop-bought curries can also have a lot of sugar in the sauce. 9.1 isn't a huge spike, but a little higher than you might like.

Hi Carina - Yes that is a what people refer to as a spike - caused by the naan bread and rice I'd say.

Any increase above your base level is what people refer to as a spike. It's the height of the spike is what is most relevant. Personally, I try to keep my spikes below 7 - i.e. within the "normal" range - and these days I usually manage to achieve that.

I liked your 5.4 before eating reading - that is doing just fine!

Best wishes - John
