Has anyone had any recommendations for hard skin removers on the feet or use any product yourself? Are diabetics advised to use them?

I moisturise my feet daily but have one small area where I always have hard skin.

Have you ever had an appointment with a podiatrist? Your GP should be able to refer you if you're concerned about the hard skin.

NHS podiatrist in most areas is only for those at high risk.

It’s actually funny you say that as I had an annual check this month and the person who did it had a few concerns so said she was referring me for a check up with the podiatrist and they have already sent me an appointment. Maybe I can just wait and get some advice.

Just thought I’d see if anyone has used any of those electric ones. Some I have looked at say consult a doctor if you are a diabetic before use and others say not suitable for diabetics. So was curious.

Already started using flexitol. Been about 6 weeks now.

Here is another vote for Flexitol . I am under the nhs Podiatrist. I am classed as high risk , they know I have PAD and little feeling in my feet . I have a problem with hard skin under the ball of my feet, and was told that if I was careful I could use a wide foot rasp the sort that looks like black Emery paper not the sort that cuts or electric ones . Mind you they usually remove any hard skin for me when I go to have my nails cut, so they might do the same for you.

Thanks for that. I’ll wait and see what they say. I have an appointment 19th January.

I think you are wise to wait till your appointment.

I use the emery paper type rasps. I get thick hard skin around my heels which cracks even though I moisturise well...I actually found that Flexitol stimulated the skin to grow thicker and needed rasping more frequently. I got a referral to the podiatrist but I was sore for a week afterwards, so prefer to rasp them myself and I get seed corns which I nip out with nail clippers. Because I have really good sensation in my feet I can feel just how far to go with rasping skin and cutting out corns whereas the podiatrist went too far. She also said that my feet were too good for me to get regular appointments with her which I was rather pleased about.

I have used the electric roller rasp things as well but after 4 or 5 uses, the roller became dull and didn't work very well and I find manual rasps do the job better, but I do have to replace them regularly as they don't last long... I have pretty tough skin on my feet.

I think most Electric ones have warnings about use by Diabetics!

Yeah that’s what I seem to see when I’ve been researching.
