@Kaylz - personally I always prefer to use soap and water as well but happy to use sanitiser to clean my hands when I'm out and need to do a glucose test.

Have you considered using bottled water with a hole in the top and using that with hand sanitiser as a temporary measure? It's not ideal but I would consider that.

Yes I have OCD, soap and water is my safety blanket generally

I have bought bottled water but we're in a small council flat and the guidelimes we were sent was to limit being near the workmen meaning I have nowhere to use it as we have to walk close by the very small bathroom to get to the kitchen, we will prettt much be stuck in the living room the whole time they are here hence why I need to try and feel that hand sanitizer will be enough, there is literally nothing I can do but use that xx

@grovesy I don't know whats happened to your comment but I got an email notification so will reply, I will go just before 8 and then not be able to go until they leave around 3pm, no option seen as we will have no water to even fill the toilet xx

I deleted it as I thought better off it.

Err, so where will the workman be able to go to relieve themselves in the interim? Unsafe working conditions if they can't !

Hi kaylz, my daughter and brother in law both suffer from ocd but in different ways. He was in a similar situation to you i.e having bathroom fitted in council property. He lives in a semi so seems like he has more room. Anyhow i 'll tell you what he did. Collected empty water bottles from the 5 litre to the 500ml. Before they started. The morning they came he filled the bottles up with red hot water and his favourite carex anti- bac hand wash sothey were ready to use. Obviously had some filled with plain water for rinsing. If he found as the day went on he gave them a short blast in the microwave. Oh! Also used a kitchen sink bowl towash his hands over. Perhaps you could adapt his system to suit yourself somehow. He himself uses hand sanitiser always has a small one in his pocket. This was before covid-19 too. Anyway hope its not as stressful as you think it might be.

I don't have a clue TW but I assume they have something in place for themselves, not even sure when the toilet will go in, I do know if you suffer IBS you get a commode which I don't really see as fair as everyone has the right to use a toilet but hey ho xx

There honestly isn't this option, we'll have enough to have in the living room as it is and with a destructive cat that will be even worse behaved than he already is we can't have too much and certainly not a basin with water or anything, I really do just need to believe that sanitiser will do the job and keep me safe, I know many are using it hours a day and are ok but with OCD you dont think like that :( xx

Hope the work goes smoothly and the disruption is as short-lived as it can be.

Hand sanitiser will be absolutely fine - I hope your OCD isn’t too triggered (((hugs)))

Thanks Mike, just seems like some are trying to discourage me from hand sanitiser which isn't helping lol, 2 weeks today the work starts, fingers crossed all goes ok xx

I think some can sense your anxiety over the inability to handwash and are suggesting ideas or options in case they help.

I don’t think they are intentionally trying to discourage you or cause upset.

My youngest lives with OCD and finds there is no real logic to it - it doesn’t seem to obey any real rules like ‘if this is OK, that will also be OK’... it just gets triggered but what triggers it :(

Hi @Kaylz
No advice or suggestions from me apart from to take care, look after yourself and have a virtual hug from me.

Maybe but as its the only way that I feel comfortable really I have thought of all these things and they aren't doable, I tried to have ways of washing my hands as soon as I knew about the situation but with the guidelines we have to follow it just isn't reality xx

Good luck hope it goes as well as it can.
