Has anyone had this done, thinking about asking for referral to see if op is possible?

Understand risks involved but diabetes under control so shouldn't be factor on procedure going ahead, hope not anyway.

Well you are at liberty to ask of course, but at the moment unless you can make an absolutely truthful case of why it is affecting your life so badly at present, which in all honesty I do think that you will need to do if you want someone in the NHS to act, to have a smowball's chance in hell - not because of the pandemic at all, it is simply that they've restricted the amount of elective surgery available to all & sundry in the NHS for the last 25 years an enormous amount.

Not affecting life badly, more uncomfortable & would prefer to act now than wait until it gets much worse & interferes with walking.

Spoke with gp on call today, referral to podiatrist for assessment them might get referred to hospital clinic.

I've had the same issue for a few years now. I've been controlling it with a toe alignment splint but I get severe pain in mine some days. I should have seen them back in the spring for a follow up but haven't been seen since october last year now. They're doing everything possible to avoid surgery.

I didn't even realise surgery for hammer toes was available.

Mine are solely caused by the misalignment of my right big toe, since I have a bunion on that foot. I have never ever been offered any assistance with the alignment of any of my toes. The only assistance at all I've ever had with tootsies is cutting my toenails and whilst doing it they file away at the outer surface of the nails which makes me nauseous. Plus my nails grow very quickly and catch on the bedclothes so I cut them myself and then get shouted at by podiatry because they say I've been far too old and incompetent to look after my own feet for at least 10 years if not 15. I should not be doing this!! Fine, well you see me once a fortnight then, not every 12! I cut a bit off some of my nails every week and always have had to, if I want to re-wear any stockings or tights or socks.

I have toe nails that if they are not cut regularly would dig in to the next toe and make them sore.

Tried toe splint Stitch, what's reason for avoiding surgery, is it down to you having diabetes?

No, its not severe enough for surgery yet, my diabetes doesn't even get mentioned.
