Health figures released today (January 15) by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) show that half of smokers signed up to NHS England’s stop smoking services successfully managed to kick the habit in 2014.

The latest statistics show that 50% of the 207,883 smokers who signed up to the services between April and September 2014 reported that they no longer smoked four weeks after their set quit date.

Smoking causes an estimated 80,000 deaths in England each year and is the single most preventable cause of death.
