I know this is going to sound silly bit I am sick of shaving my legs lol. I know diabetics cannot wax as we are more prone to infection and I was wondering if anyone has found any other method of hair removal than shaving and creams, Ive been looking everywhere for something and have found these http://www.idealworld.tv/_164582.aspx
but they do not come with any health warnings

Hiya, I have tried these and personally they don't work for me. I use spray on depilatory cream but the only problem with it is it can be a bit messy. 🙂

I use wax strips, for sensitive skin, and have never had any problems. I have also used the product you found. It was quite good. It also exfoliates the skin. I am NOT saying you should use either, but they work for me.

Glad you posted that, I didn't know about the waxing thing, I was thinking of giving it a go because I hate shaving too. I found hair removal creams make me sensitive so that didn't work. You can get a hair minimising moisturiser (veet I think) which might mean you can shave less often as it makes hair softer and slows growth I think.

that dont mean a thing alan i know a bloke who waxs his legs mind you hes also the best drag queen i know

There was a news report yesterday that women (and drag acts, I suppose) are wasting vaste quantities of water whilst shaving their legs in the shower.

Doesn't answer your question, but needed to be said, I thought! :D

Andy 🙂

I once dressed as Snow White for a fancy dress party, but decided I looked far too pretty so ended up going as a lumberjack! 🙂

Regarding waxing, I would have thought that the prohibition against diabetics using it is like a lot of things i.e. the manufacturers covering themselves. Someone whose diabetes is well-controlled and with no complications is probably no different from a non-diabetic - we're only more prone to infections if our levels are above normal.

I'm not advocating it, but it might be worth getting a medical opinion next time you're at the doctor's Emily, to see if it would be alright for you personally 🙂

thanks for the replies 🙂 Ive tried waxing before diagnosis and I found it pretty painless lol, but Im just scared to use it now incase of infection. Northerner, Ive got my 6 month review with my dsn in a couple of weeks so I will ask then, you dont know unless you ask.

Indeed 🙂 I've just been thinking, whilst I have been out doing the gardening this week I've picked up loads of scratches on my legs - I'm sure that must be worse than waxing in terms of infection risks, but we're not warned against gardening, just to keep things clean and well looked after 🙂

I wouldn't see any probs with it as long as your control is decent. I have mine done at a salon and I make sure they know that I'm D,T1 and they would have raised any issue with it there. At least too, there is some comeback on the salon!

Not sure its anything really to do with the infection side of things.
I think that with some wax, it is heated first which is the issue if your sensitivity is dulled and don't realised the wax is burning/burnt your legs/arms etc
