Hair loss

Hi, am pretty new to this, am 2 months in and am on metformin and insulin, the last week or so I have noticed that I am losing quite a bit of hair every time I brush my hair, and even more when I wash it, is this something likely to be connected with the diabetes?

Have you had your thyroid function checked? That seems to have a significant effect on hair loss.

Sometimes where the body is under a lot of stress (pregnancy is a classic example), the body hangs on to hair longer than it usually would, then when the stress is relieved, it sheds more old hair than usual because it is growing new. I'm wondering if high glucose levels were stressing your body, and with treatment they’re coming down so your body is able to function more normally.

A few weeks on Metformin and my hair fell out, filling the brush each time I used it.
I stopped the Metformin but the hair has not regrown. As I am otherwise fine, and I do still have a thin covering, I am not all that bothered. I did try some regrowing stuff from Boots, to no avail.

Been good, between 5 and 8 most days

Tried anything with Minoxidil in it? (What's in Regain for men 5% and Regaine for women 2%) It was recommended to a female friend in Cornwall for this problem but the dermatologist said even that had limited success, but did have some at least and she was told to use the one for men. She had hers cut off to approx an inch all over and invested in a short wig. Her hairdresser actually blames it on the cheaper products used by the former owner of the business she took over a few years ago, which she no longer ever uses. Chucked practically all out and started again, plus did a deep clean asap - and improved the day to day hygiene there too immediately.

Costs a bob or ten, not available on the NHS!
