Hi my son is Diabetic diagnosed 2 years ago.

He has some bald patches and hair thinning to his head.

The doctor thinks this is alopicia but is doing blood test to rule out iron deficency and thyroid trouble.

Is this common in diabetics or is this unrelated problem.:confused:
 
Hi Simone, quite a few people have experienced some hair loss and this topic does crop up now and again. I understand that it can be more common in people with diabetes, particularly if they have Type 1 diabetes. As Type 1 is an autoimmune disease then we are more susceptible to other autoimmune problems such as thyroid (which you mention) and also coeliac disease. Has he been tested for coeliac disease? Hair loss is listed as one of the symptoms on this Diabetes UK page:
