Had a letter from docs this morn telling me they hav taken away my test strips don't need them as I'm on met oh well I'm not that bothered either way tbh I've been only testing once a day in morning il just use these last 20 carefully

That's a shame :( Thankfully, I think you have a pretty good idea of what you can eat/what to avoid and your levels have been pretty good for some time. Perhaps you could request a tub every 6 months so you have the capability to test if you feel unwell and suspect a hyper or that your medication might need adjusting? That would seem very reasonable to me.

That seems reasonable to me too. I find my tub of 50 (prescribed by my GP) easily lasts one year, so it would hardly constitute a major outlay for the practice!

Andy 🙂

Yeah gd idea

I wonder if I am to back on Victoza if they will let me have them back though

Seems a coincidence I get dragged into pharmacist office 3 weeks ago I'm scroutinised about my meds then Fanny's your aunt I get strips took off me

Sorry to hear this Steff. Do you still have contact with a DSN. If you do have a word with them - if they will back you up in the need for strips then it may help your cause.

Sorry to hear that Steff what a pain.

I do wonder though what would happen to the GP's payments from the PCT's if all diabetics went on strike as well and refused to go for their check ups ie, the box ticking exercise.
As I understand it payments are made for ticking these boxes. Sooo.....

I don't really have any issues with it so don't feel the need to fight I can only see issue if need to go back to injecting. For the last however many months I've only been testing in the morning and evening time if I have felt hyper symptoms.i will see my gp on the 24th though just to get the general basics of the situation

Sorry to hear..

I would speak to your GP and see if you can secure a small amount at least..

You've shown very good management skills of your condition, using all medication and kit wisely and effectively... You understand your condition well, you know what factors that could indicate a problem brewing, so a small amount of test strip provision, would enable you to pick up any pending problems early before they become a problem...

I would say this to your GP, and point out that if you can't pick up brewing problems early enough, then what's the likely hood you'll end up back on Victoza and needing an higher quantity of test strips for the victoza etc... 1 pot every 6 months, could prevent you from going down this rather expensive route etc...

And say, that you've worked really hard to get where you do, all you asking is for a little backup to ensure that it's not all undone!

Well said Ellie 🙂 And if you do feel poorly and aren't able to test and end up having to make an appointment to find out what the problem is then that will instantly cost the NHS far more than a couple of boxes of strips a year. (Although I think it wouldn't be the doctor that loses out but the PCT)

Excellent suggestion and one of the reasons people should be provided with test strips!
