Have received a gym referral form from the doctor which is good 🙂. I note that she has put on the form that I am taking Simvastatin which I am not doing and thought that I had agreed that I would not do so. My cholesterol level is well within the desired range. Do others with normal cholesterol levels take statins?

My cholesterol is back within normal range, it was never very much over the recommended level anyway even when I was REALLY fat. I take Atorvastatin, which I swapped to after Simvastatin gave me the muscle toxicity/pain side-effect. Tell the doctor if any aches you get from the gym refuse to get better after a day or two.

Hi

When diagnosed I was in normal levels as under 5 I think I was 4.4 or something but I did go onto statins as history of heart problems in my dads family as is the T2. Not so much the total but the ratio of good/bad levels.

My breakdown was wrong as mostly the bad (LDL) stuff rather than the good (HDL) stuff. Since being on the lowest dose possible 10mg of simvastatin with no aches or pains/side-effects etc my total has gone to 3.4 but more important the right ratio of HDL/LDL so I'll continue to take my baby dose to keep this good.

Personal decision for anyone where your doctor advises statins, for me the pros outweighed the cons. In fact so far I've not had any cons.

I'm due my next lot of blood test in next few weeks, so we'll see how it is going.

I am on simvastatin despite never having been outside of norms on cholesterol. I was told even though it was fine, if it could be reduced a bit further then that would be better.

It makes for amusing health screening questions though - do you take statins to lower cholesterol YES, have you been diagnosed with high cholesterol NO but you said you take statins etc etc.

I havent had side effects though, so am happy to keep taking Drs advice, I tend to ask annually if I still need them, as I cost us all enough ?? as it is, but am always told yes.
