I have recently been diagnosed as type 2 and told to lose weight. Ive lost 9 kilos by low carb eating and i do a morning test and it is well under 7 now.
I've been reading about a healthy gut diet which is intriguing. Has anyone had their gut binome tested by zoe or similar company? Have the recommendations made a difference to your diabetes control?

Welcome to the forum @Lulub

Well done on your amazing weight loss so far! And great to hear your waking levels are so improved.

I‘m not sure we have many on the forum who have tried Zoe, though it does come up from time to time.

From what I can tell many of the suggestions aren’t really all that personalised, and generally follow mainstream eating advice (more whole foods, more veg. less sugar and refined carbs, being careful about overall fat intake and preferring ‘good fats’)

The twitter / X post by Nicola Guess mentioned there seems to have been deleted, but there are some concerns expressed by her in this article about the worries it can cause people:

Thank you for your reply, that article was very interesting. I will carry on with what I am doing, I think as it seems to be working

Yes, they do seem to just advocate healthy eating to everyone. If you look on Zoe's Facebook page, a lot of the comments are just that. Sleep well, eat well and exercise more, which we all know we need to do 🙂

My gastroenterology team approve of my low carb diet and I'm fairly sure they would tell me to do things differently if I needed to.

Glad to hear you've found a strategy that works for you @Lulub 🙂

Sound sensible. Someone pointed me to the Zoe programme but I concluded that I'd found what works for me and did not want to be adding more tests, data etc. as I finger prick test every day and have the usual annual T2 diabetes checks. I try to make sure I have a varied diet and am not aware of any vitamin or mineral deficiencies so didn't pursue the Zoe programme.

I don’t know what others do for improving the gut biome but I looked into it a little last year and I’ve increased massively the amount of veg I eat in a day plus salads, then eat sauerkraut each day with a fairly generous portion plus Greek yoghurt which has a few live bacterial cultures.
I try to stay away from ultra processed and artificial sweeteners although Xmas period I failed a lot of this and feel worse for it actually.

Love to hear what others do as more and more research indicates how important the gut biome is for multiple reasons.

I do similar @mitchsi I have kimchi, plenty of green veg, pulses, nuts, fruit, herbs and grains and avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I try to keep Michael Gregor’s Daily Dozen vaguely in mind, along with similar lists.

@Inka I have some kimchi in the fridge, wasn’t a massive fan but plan to try it again.
I’ll check out Gregory’s list but what you mentioned I put in my monster soup - my wife won’t touch it but at least it’s healthy :-D

Kimchi really does depend on the brand. The best one I’ve had is a locally made one that’s raw and properly fermented. If I can’t get that, I go with Vadasz Raw Kimchi which you can get in most supermarkets.

Thanks @Inka last time I had it was a Korean restaurant in the Philippines. So probably widely different here but anyway for the sake of health I’ll convert.
I didn’t think about looking for fresh local sources - good idea.

Someone in the house made Kimchi in the Autumn last year from the outer leaves of a cauliflower. Took about 6-8 weeks I think, and was made in a jar that allowed it to breathe while it fermented.

I’m no kimchi connoisseur, but it tasted pretty darned good to me!
