I know that this is not strictly diabetes related but I wondered if anyone wanted to guess the eye pressure that I have at tomorrow's eye casualty appointment. The maximum it should be is 22. Last tuesdsy it was 34😱 Thursday it was 27and Friday it was 17🙂 but on Friday they stopped me taking one of the medications because of the effects on the diabetes - I've been reacting really bad since they gave me three new glaucoma medications last week in addition to those I already have

I want it to be 12 tomorrow so that I can cut out another of the glaucoma drugs because I'm already on more than I should be and they're making the diabetes fairy unhappy:(

Hi AJ good luck hun I will guess at 14.But i do hope its under 12 for you..

I have been sent to the hospital because I have pressure in my eyes but only been tested by the puff test
what test does the hospital do and is it uncomfortable

thanks

Hi Trumble

You will normally have a sight test by the nurse. After this you will see the doctor and need to rest your chin on a small platform whilst they look at each eye. They will then put numbing drops in your eye and push a small probe at your eye to check the pressure it doesn't hurt at all and is more accurate for checking your pressure than the puff test. They may also put drops in your eye so that they can clearly examine the back of the eye as well. The eye drops may sting a little but only for a second or two. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me Apart from having drops each day for the first eleven years the glaucoma never caused me any Obvious problems - my problems now seem to be because I've got a more complicatedcthan normal version so don't worry about it. You almost certainly won't be able to drive after the eye test for a few hours because of the eye drops. One other point if you are prescribed glaucoma drops take them exactly as prescribed every day sometimes people don't take the drops because they haven't got symptoms but not taking the drops will cause problems

Thanks Steffie I would be happy with 14 as well

Has anyone told you what the 'normal' pressure should be?

Whatever that is, I'll add 2 to it for my guess!

sorry to have butted in but I was a bit worried

thanks for reassuring me

A 12 would be wonderful, but maybe the cutting out of one of the meds will make that difficult to achieve. I'm guessing 15, but hoping for a 12 or below!

Thanks Andy. I've never been told the normal pressure but I know that it should be a maximum of 22 and i think the lowest should be 8 but the lowest may be a liitle high than that

You haven't butted in at all. I'm glad you asked because it can be very worrying when something like this is new. Please ask anytime

Thanks Northener. I think 12 will be very hard and I've never had pressure that low so your guess might be right. Got some good news an hour ago the hospital phoned and ive got my urgent appointment with the glaucoma specialist on Friday morning.........I'm beginning to think that I should live near to the hospital with all these visits🙄

The pressure was 18 in both eyes which would be good if I wasn't suffering the side effects of so many glaucoma drugs. I've been taken off another one of them today. The big hope that is that a balance will be found between the number of drops that I can tolerate enough to go back to work and the pressure being at an acceptable level (and the pressure may rise even with the drops). If this can't be achieved I was told that I may be facing an operation due to the scarring on both eyes and that this surgery may not even work. Will hopefully know more when I see the specialist on Friday.🙄 At least I've been super organised and got myself a talking blood testing machine in case I can't see too well after any of the treatments:D

I'm hoping for the best possible outcome AJ. I hope the specialist is able to help you and that the talking meter remains a novelty!

Thanks Northener.......hopefully the talking meter will just become a fairy dust collector

Aww AJ, really feel for you, you must be fed up of traipsing around all the time for various appts and then not really knowing what the future holds. Sending you loads of good wishes and positive fairy dust.xx

Thanks Flutterby - the eye department is beginning to feel like the bar in Cheers i.e. where everybody knows my name! I'm feeling more positive today...I guess it's because I know that I've done everything that I possibly can with regard to taking the medications and chasing appointments etc, now I just have to go with the flow and stay calm.
