Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Whilst listening to R4 the other morning, as is my wont, there was a piece on diabetes, when the presenter said that some people "only suffered from a mild form of diabetes"

Perhaps I should have checked my blood pressure after this

OK rant over, but it does annoy me!😡

Have you complained? I find that doing something about it makes me feel better, even if it proves to be ineffective. For example I complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about the Lucozade ad saying it 'hydrates better than water'. It disappeared from the airwaves for a while, but it's creeping back now. Oh well, at least I tried!

Good point!

Yes, I made a formal complaint to the BBC, stating that I found the remark to be both offensive and incorrect

Which programme, which date? Knowing that, others could listen online and perhaps comment / complain to BBC, too.

It was late in the week on Radio 4, Thursday or Friday morning

Lumping us all together

I get mad when the media talks about diabetes as if it's one disease. They frequently make no distinction between Type 1 and Type 2, so the less knowledgeable about the subject think our diabetes (Type 1) is down to our lifestyle. I get fed up explaining the difference to people and feel it is time the media was better educated about the subject.
Maryanne 😡

having mild diabetes, is that like being mildly pregnant or mildly male or female?
