i am so mad i put in for some strips last wedensday, i drop them at the pharmacy and they collect it from the doctors been up there twice allready went to pick his pescription up tonight as we are totally out of strips and they still have'nt got it so i went up the doctor surgery myself with a head full of steam i was told the reason it had'nt been sent back yet was because we had ordered to quickly after the last time, i get two packs a time with 50 in a pack
now at 4 checks a day which is the least you should do that makes them last 24 days but i do around 6 to 7 checks a day as he does football three times a week they told me that they should last at least a month
why are they doing this i've never had this until recently
cant wait to see his diabetic doctor tomorrow:confused:

what are you going to do from now if you don't have any strips?

good that you have an appointment with the diabetes doctor tomorrow, maybe s/he can write a letter or phone the surgery to let them know that you need more stips.
As long as you can show that each test is for a reason and what you do with the result then i'm sure the diabetes doctor will support you.

I play football and I test before, at half time (or halfway though 2 hour training session) and after the game, so thats an extra 3 test to normal.

Hopefully it can be sorted tomorrow.

blood test strip problems

Hi i can sympathize with you here Ive been put on a pump in the last 4months and one requirement is I have to do between 4-8 BG's a day. But my GP would only prescribe a pack of 50 each time, well it dont take a mathematician to work out that they ownt last very long not even a week as my average can be 7 a day plus any which error for one thing and another. Eventually I went guns ablazing to my GP only to discover her approached me and said it seems silly you keep asking for blood test strips so often so I will change to your script to order 200 each time. So problem solved. I also was told by the diabetic nurse I only needed to do one blood test a day after being told by my consultant at the hospital before going on a pump to be doing at least 4 BG's a day... I wish some people would sing from the same hymn book. Good luck with the docs....

Sadly, some practices appoint a diabetic nurse, send him/her on a short and often poor course, pay them extra and all dibetic patients are referred by the GP.
Had to get update info for mine; I was totally misinformed on several things. As tactfully as possible have seen GP and let him know.

hi i often worry about this . I get 2 packs of strips for Jake with 50 in them . I order mine every two weeks . We test more than 4 times a day , and when unwell every 2 hours even during the night . I also supply school with strips & lancets etc ... . I often think it wont be long before they start saying to me im ordering them to often . You also lose a few strips due to error readings ,,etc . Hope you get the strips .

Failures & sickness not taken into consideration

It is ok for anyone to say you must do an average so many a day, but anyone who regularly does BG tests has probably seen the same as I have that it doesnt take long to use another 2 strips for each hypo you may suffer from and the 3 or 4 out of 50 which fail in the meter, suddenly the pack of 50 doeasnt go as far as you expected...😡
