I'm pre diabetes and a bit concerned. I get my blood results next week.

I didn't think I had typical symptoms alas on a routine test my GP told me I was pre :/

After much research I do have a few of the symptoms headaches, night sweats plus peeing a lot..... Hi everyone

Until you get your blood results, there's no certainty that you have pre-diabetes, as it's a diagnosis made purely on blood results, whether HbA1c, fasting blood glucose or an oral glucose tolerance test. The figures are different for diagnosis of pre-diabetes or diabetes for each test.
It's possible that your symptoms could be caused by something else. Or you could have diabetes, most likely type 2. Equally, the results could help your GP decide, with you, what course of action is best eg diet / exercise / weight loss (if overweight) / medication (various types).
Please let us know what happens. In the meantime, common sense eating and activity can't do any harm.

Hi David, welcome to the forum 🙂 Not everyone gets all the symptoms, it can vary from person to person. Many people don't realise they have symptoms until after a diagnosis, because they are often things that you can put down to other things (which is what I did!). The good news is that, if diabetes is confirmed, then it is something that can be controlled well - in fact, many people find that the adjustments they make to their diet and activity levels result in them feeling happier and healthier than they have for some time - hopefully, this will be the case for you 🙂 Also, a diet which is healthy for people with diabetes is healthy for everyone, and although there may be some restrictions - most notably on the amount and type of carbohydrates you can tolerate - you can still have a rich and varied diet and enjoy your food 🙂 For a bit of bedtime reading, you might like to have a look at Maggie Davey's letter wich gives a good overview of an approach to take to keep blood sugar levels under good control.

Hi David, welcome. Please do not worry about the results. I was diagnosed with type two about 10 months ago and in the months just before my diagnosis I had never felt so ill. Fatigue, headaches, swollen fingers, feeling constantly hot, I could go on. I really didn't know how I was going to face my fifties, the large birthday had just arrived, let alone get to my sixties because I felt so bad. Once I started to reduce the sugar the effects were almost instantaneous, I felt as if I had had a ten ton weight lifted off my body. I am now fitter, thinner, healthier and looking forward to life with a new zest. Yes it was a wake up call, yes sometimes it is hard, but the other good side has been to those around me. My fifteen year old son has been a tower of strength and he has cut down on his sugar, as a family we all eat healthier and my best friend had in her words has had " a severe wake up call, if it can happen to you, of all people, then it could happen to me, I must sort myself out so I don't end up with diabetes." Whatever the results, don't worry, the forum is a great place for support and advice so you are among friends. Take care.

Being diagnosed pre diabetes in my view is not as bad as being diagnosed as a type 2 or 1... I'd see it like a 'warning' - a pre diabetes diagnosis, a chance for you to try and reverse it quick and start some life style changes - perhaps doing more exercise and eating healthier - cut down on sugars etc . A wake up call ? - maybe a good thing . Be positive and you'll be fine. Use your noodle ! no problem, Good Luck!
