New member here but have been type 3c for several years after some gallstones gave me pancreatitis.

Hoping to provide some support and advice here now I have some experience behind me, and maybe take some inspiration from the various stories posted here.

See you on the Forums.

Gerb.

Hi and welcome... 😎

Hi and welcome

Great to have another 3c on the forum. I will tag some of our regular Type 3cs such as @Proud to be erratic, @Wendal, @soupdragon, @eggyg.

Would you like to tell us about your diabetes and how you manage it? Things like what medication/insulin(s) you need and do you have a Constant Glucose Monitor (CGM) like L:ibre or Dexcom?

Have you had surgery and if so, which bits were removed? Hopefully you have fully recovered from any surgery.

Great that you want to provide support and advice for others in a similar position and the forum is great for that as well as learning yourself. Diabetes is surprisingly individual and I think Type 3c is probably more individual/variable due to the different causes and levels of pancreatic disfunction, so it is probably the most tricky to manage.

Anyway, look forward to learning more about you and from you. :D

Hi @Gerb and welcome to the forum from me as well. I had a similar set of circumstances as you, in 1999 I had gallstones which they removed along with my gallbladder, three months later I had my first pancreatitis attack which I wouldn't wish on anyone as you well know. In 2003 I had my second pancreatic attack and in 2006 my third attack, fortunately, I've not had one since then and I hope I never do. I don't know how much pancreas I have left but it still appears to be working to some degree and for that I'm thankful.

And welcome @Gerb from me also. I surrendered my panc'y to cancer back in Feb '20 so came to Diabetes abruptly, initially discharged as T1 then found out that I was really T3c. As @rebrascora says I quite strongly see T3c as very individual, thus variable, because of the multitude of different start points for each of us with our surprisingly different forms of pancreatic damage.

I look forward to reading about your experiences and a little more about your medical circumstances. For example when did someone tell you that you were T3c? My understanding is that although the International Conference, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) was around 10 yrs ago, the World Health Organisation didn't endorse the overall recommendations for the multitude of subtypes of T3a-k. Consequently the idea that some forms of Diabetes are neither T1 nor T2 is even today resisted by some UK Health Care Practicioners (HCPs) and thus even T3c is not fully absorbed into the NHS, nor its complexity understood by much of the NHS.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Welcome @Gerb
I'm another 3c due to pancreatitis.
Was there anything in particular that you need help with?

Good morning @Gerb and welcome to the forum. Nice to have another person to share their experiences of living with diabetes with the rest of us. We are quite an eclectic mix. Looking forward to reading your future posts
