Hi all,
I have been for my appointment with the consultant. First time in 10 / 15 years. I was really scared about how they would be with my complete disregard of my diabetes for the past 10 years. But she was so lovely.
I mean, really lovely. She had time to listen to me. She could see how hard I have been trying (HbA1c test from 96 down to 64!).She has suggested I go on a carb counting course - which I agreed. It never hurts to have a reminder.
She also suggested a pump in the future may be useful, depending on how steady I can get my tests - still a bit up and down. When I spoke to my GP last year about pumps he told me I should try to get pregnant and that would tick the right box on the form!!!!!
My feet are fine - all sensations accepted! Weight and BMI were ok too - phew!!!
I think this must have been the best experience for me ever.
And......I get to see one of these DSN people that you all talk about on here!!! Lol!! I am such a lucky girl.
Seriously though, I have come away feeling like someone has noticed me (rather than my GP ignoring my results - oh yes 96 is fine!) and is going to support my progress.
I go back in four months.
Thank you all for your support too. I hope you all have a really good day!
Hilary :D

Hilary that is fantastic so pleased to hear of a positive outcome of a doctors appointment on this forum for once x well done that consultant

I'm really, really pleased for you. Sounds like you had a great appointment.

Really wonderful to hear of such a good appointment - your consultant sounds like a gem (i won't say what your GP sounds like, but I'm thinking of a Jim Henson creation lol!) 🙂

I'm pleased for you Hilary & that you had a very positive appointment! 🙂

Sounds like a fantastic result to me. 🙂

very glad you are getting things sorted- and although your HbA1c still has room for improvement, it's a huge improvement on the one before
YourGP sounds very remiss- if you were struggling you should have been referred long before-or was it a case of you declining to attend?. Mind you hearing some stories I think that GPs that berate someone for having a high HbA1c and then decline to prescribe adequate test strips or refer someone to secondary care are the worst of all

Carb counting courses are generally helpful - you get to meet other people, some of whom no doubt have been in similar circumstances to yourself. But if there is a long wait try looking at the bournemouth online course- you should find it if you search using bdec. Also a very useful although detailed book is " using insulin" by John Walsh- there is also a version for pumpers if you end up going down that route- It's detailed as it covers many different types of insulin and as it is American it has different BG units but converts everything to mmol/L

That is such good news! Well done on the progress so far and with a bit of help I am sure you will go from strength to strength - it makes all the difference when someone listens to you properly.

Thank you all so much for your help and wishes.
I don't feel so lost or bogged down by the whole thing so much.
Some days are better than others but I'm sure we are all like that!
You all make a big difference to me.
