Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
I am an over 65 yr old woman. My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 nearly 25 years ago and a sister, also type 1 about 15 years ago. I have not felt well recently and have seen the Dr 3 times. Nothing found so far and Hba1c is ‘fine’. I’ve been scouring the internet and wonder if I’m deficient in zinc, I have several of the symptoms. I see that pre diabetic post menopausal women can be low on zinc. So.....Does anyone have any insight here? Is there any point in using a glucose meter?. I’d be more than grateful for any replies, thanks.

As you haven't specified the symptoms you have of zinc deficiency, can I ask if you're fatigued easily or have been losing any hair from anywhere - ie not just your head? If so - has hypothyroidism been completely ruled out?

I've been T1 since I was 22 and discovered in my mid 20s the wonder that is leg waxing. Once I earned enough to have it done regularly brill - but after a while didn't need it done anywhere near so frequently and just assumed the waxing had paid off. What a twerp - my thyroid had joined in the auto immune club. Membership of that club runs in your family!

Well that’s a thought, I’ve noticed more head hair shedding than usual, but legs! Thought I’d almost lost my leg hair due to age. I feel weird, nauseous, have some skin issues down below, mouth is odd, sore tongue and slightly swollen lips. A bit of an off stomach, a bit of a constant headache, and yes tired and slobby feeling. Otherwise, slim and normally healthy. I’m ticking several of the zinc deficient boxes.
