Relationship to Diabetes
Hi, I'm a first time poster on here. I'm taking my 6 year old grand daughter to Disneyland Paris in June and am just a bit concerned about carb counting in the restaurants in the parks. Does anyone have any advice or experience on this subject. She's as good as gold in her eating and taking the insulin (by pen, not pump). I'm probably just worrying more as she'll be my responsibility for five days as her mum isn't going with us.

Welcome to the forum, Nick Angle. It's probably best to invest in a book such as Carbs and Calories published by Collins. Some restaurants publish nutritional content of dishes online so you might be able to download some PDFs. Have a great trip.

Aside from carbs and cals which is an excellent resource have you looked at their website? I think they publish most of their menus online, so it might be fun to look at them together and see if there are any items she likes the look of so if you don't have any idea of the carbs involved you can investigate beforehand. I'd also be tempted to email their customer service and ask if they keep carb information onsite (they might which would be put your mind at ease a little), if they don't then a bit of pre holiday planning might be fun, she can also tell you if she's confident at guessing carbs, then if not you can investigate together. My friend did something similar with her daughter (food allergies rather than carbs) and they made a scrapbook of the menus and the stuff they wanted to try. She contacted customer services and they were really helpful in identifying which of the menu items might need a rethink. It was the Disney in the US but I expect they'll probably be just as helpful. I suppose it depends on how much Mum normally helps out with the carb counting, but then perhaps Mum could help with the menu planning? I'd make it fun (hence the scrapbook my friend used so her daughter didn't really know it was about the allergies) otherwise it might be a bit tricky but much of that depends on whether your granddaughter would like a bit of cutting and sticking (I love a bit of cutting and sticking so I'd love it 😉).

Hi, a lot of the menus can be found on this website

http://www.dlptoday.com

All the restaurants there have a wide variety of different menus. If you visit city hall in the main Disneyland park (over to the left after going under the train station) they may have the nutritional info there or the individual restaurants may be able to supply it.
I've been there 25 times, all the staff are very helpful.
Enjoy.

Hi and welcome
Hope the holiday is a good one

Hi just want to say thanks for all great advice and kind welcoming words. Been in contact with DLP and they can help with nutritional amounts of food. They have also asked about what food outlets we will visit and try to provide info before we fly. Also discussing meal ideas with grand daughter so can pinpoint best restaurants, so all positive. thanks again. DLP here we come

Hope she's tall enough to go on the rides she'd like to, Grandad ! Bloomin rotating teacups ....... LOL

Well I hope you have a marvellous time, giant rotating teacups not withstanding :D.

If you have a smartphone the carbs and cals app has just been updated with lots of info from chains like Nando's, Burger King etc so that might be worth taking too as a backup 🙂

Great news @Nick Angle. Websites are often very helpful about menus etc. Do retain flexibility, though, in case one is closed or a dish is not available.

Hope you have a great time. Only 147 days until I go!

I wish I was going. It was always my ambition as a child to visit Disney but then they kept opening more parks! I've been to the Paris one and the Anaheim one so only Florida to go. I'm scared of sinkholes though so dunno about that. 😉 Have a wonderful time.
