NHS England has encouraged GPs to ‘keep patients away from hospital’, despite recent messages to restart routine care.

In the latest update to the GP standard operating procedures, NHS England said GPs should continue to use specialist advice and guidance ‘where available’ to avoid referring patients for outpatient appointments.

But GP leaders said the guidance is 'disingenuous'.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, GPs have warned that they are managing more patients ‘outside their comfort zone’ due to less support from secondary care services.

And one LMC last week warned NHS England that its local hospital has ‘closed its doors to patients’.

Where i am its more a case of patients must keep away from the GPs. They sent me to the hospital for a blood test rather than let anyone through the surgery door. Had to phone up for a time slot, when i got there the waiting room was full, the overflow room was full, and people were standing in the corridor. Waiting time was going to be over 2 hours. Nobody would explain what happened to the appointment concept...............

Fortunately my bloods were taken by my Diabetes Nurse at the surgery this morning and she checked my feet, and other bits, and will phone to discuss results next week.
I would not want to go to the hospital to bloods done at this time, I have only been there once the begining of the year I was not feeling well the place was rammed standing room only , waited over an hour. It put me off have them repeated for a coupke of borderline results. If I don't have mine done at the surgery, in normal times there is a bookable sessions at a church hall in the city that you are in and out. It is suspended at present.

GP Surgery Nurse - cannot see as restricted entry to surgery
Diabetic Clinic - received a letter back in March cancelling 2 appointments and asking that we do not contact them until further notice. Have tried to contact them as I want to upgrade my tslim pump software (or have there support for a replacement), but no reply to left messages.
County Diabetic service - they control Retinopathy services, called them 2 weeks ago promised a call back....3 months overdue, last year potentially had a shadow and recently had a blood test related to another condition and the high blood level can also impact on retinopathy so really would like to get one done.

My Retinopathy screening was cancelled, but my area are doing high risk, and those like myself with no previous problems will be seen next year.
More postcode lottery.
There was a bit of Twitter storm over GP services, many up in arms.
