Hi,

I went to diabetes review on Friday at the hospital and today my gp surgery rang me up and asked me to make an appointment to see my go about my urine sample, acr I think she said. My Hbaic was 8.8 which I know is high . Really worried now, what does acr mean and what could it do to me.

I think it is probably the urine albumin : creatinine ratio, which is a test of kidney function. They may want you to have some further tests to see whether you need any medication to help with your kidneys (often a blood pressure medication is given). Try not to worry, hopefully it will be something that can be treated easily. Let us know how things go 🙂

I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry and see the doctor, it is probably something quite simple

Thanks, blood sugar been terrible lately, hoping it is something simple. Go to the gp on Friday so not long to find out, the receptionist said that it hasn't come up as an emergency so not to worry too much. Aghh, as if I haven't enough to worry about at the moment.

Back from Gp , there was a trace of protein so was told to do another urine test in two weeks time and then another after that. I mentioned that I was on my period when I had to do the one at the hospital and wondered if that could affect the results but she didn't now. Anyway am trying a lot harder to gain control back with my diabetes and hopefully the next will be okay.

Daisy, you may well have discovered the answer for yourself. Exactly the same thing happened to me when I was in hospital as a teenager, decades before D - the urine test result came back with protein because of a trace of blood.

Really hoping that is all it is, I Googled and read that menstruation can interfere with the test results. Given me a kick up the bum though to improve things and doing well so far.
