I use a GlucoRX HCT & Ketone meter specifically designed for type 1. BG/Ketone/Haematocrit.
Haematocrit is, I think, a measure of the ratio of red blood cells to volume of blood. I believe it should be around the 45% mark for men and 40% for women but not exactly sure what is too low or too high.
As to the purpose I can only assume it's to indicate if you have anaemia or something but didn't realise that was an issue for type 1s though to be honest isn't everything haha. Find a word and precede with Diabetes and tag opathy on the end of that word.
😛
I've had a wide range of values to be honest so not sure if blood sugar levels can affect them or whether I just needed to suck on a rusty nail more often.
I actually have the meter from my DSN but also bought the 'dongle' version for about £11 which plugs into a smartphone and with the associated phone application your results are logged. They use the same test strips.
I think it was the most up to date meter that my centre had for handing out (for T1s) at the time (July last year for me). My CCG don't do the Flash GM so I think this is the best I can get from my centre at the moment and am happy with it. If it wasn't for the getting tired of finger pricks it would get better marks.
The GlucoRX lancet device isn't as bad as some - not overly painful for me, but I use a Accuchek Fastclix which is more gentle to the finger (I'd still use the Accuchek Softclix but it broke and was probably over 10 years old so couldn't get easily anymore).
