Patients are being put at risk by the Scottish Government's "failure to adequately fund GPs", according to a report by an industry body.

Long waiting times for appointments, short consultations and weakening relationships between doctors and patients are contributing to a "crisis in general practice", the Royal College of General Practitioners Scotland (RCGP) said.

Analysis of figures from the Scottish Government's Health and Experience Survey 2013/14 and a ComRes poll carried out earlier this year led RCGP to warn of "dangerous consequences for patients in the light of continued underfunding".

The industry body said the Draft Budget for next year showed a real-terms funding drop of 2.2% for GPs but the Scottish Government said it has protected and increased the resource budget for NHS Scotland, adding that GP funding is now at a record level.
