Got CBM

Well I went to the hospital yesterday and had the CBM put on I have to go back on Friday with it as it is needed for someone else but all going well the date for my pump is still the 5th Jan. But the DNS did say that hoping the Rep is still comming on that day as it would be him that was going to set it up. But if not she would let me know and it would just be a few days after that but it would still be in Jan. She is going to send the Doctor word of what I am going to be on and I have to pick it up and take it with me on that day as its not going to be the Humalog that I am on at the moment. So hears hoping its that day. She did say agen that it was just a 6 month trile and if there was no improvement then it might be taken away, so hears hoping it all goes okay and I get to keep it😎

I have no first hand experience but i would imagine the transition from MDI to Pump would be quite significant, never mind going back to MDI after a few months.......

Quite Northerner. How can you measure quality of life. Not everyone that goes on a pump suddenly has great control in a six onth period, it sometimes takes a lot longer than that. However quality of life is pretty much instant once basals are not bad. That cannot be measured.

well thanks everyone I felt just a bit let down at the time what with everthing else that has happend with getting the pump this day that day then this I dont know if they just wanted me to say well forget it but I dident.
So gess Ill be on hear a lot for all you help to get things improved so they dont take it back but Im telling you all now they will have a fight on there hands so keep your fingers crossed for me😎

Great news about the CGM but I have to agree with Adrienne. 6 months may not be enough time for you to have gone through all the 'firsts', got everything tweaked and set up carefully.

6 months seems a bit arbitrary to me. Do you think that's just something they are saying to make sure you work at it in the early days?

I'd say 12 months is a more sensible / logical trial period than 6 months, not just because it's longer, but also because it covers a whole year of seasons, weathers, activities etc, whereas missing out summer or Christmas, for example wouldn't give a fair trial of the new system.

Agreed, but those who decide on health budgets, use QALYs (Quality Adjusted Life Years), so a year with the same (or worse) HbA1c, number of hyposglycaemic episodes, seriousness of hypos etc, achieved on an insulin pump at several times the cost of MDI wouldn't be considered good value.

Have you got the book pumping insulin by John Walsh? If not a good investment and it will give you a head start compared to other pumpers who haven't got it.
