I had an appointment at GPS with the Diabetes nurse. She explained that they were considering switching people onto meters that used much cheaper test strips. What did I think.
I explained that my meter was linked to my pump so needed to stick to what I had. Also explained why I order so many at a time. Absolutely no problem.
She asked whether it might be possible for T1 s not on a pump. We talked about MDI and smart meters and why their facilities help to prevent hypos through knowing active insulin, and hypers by correct use of carb ratios and corrections. She decided to delete any T1s on their list and leave them on what they are currently using.
What a sensible approach to check with patients first. Their concern is where some have auto reorders for test strips but when they talk to them they do not use them and they stockpile.
