A STUDENT who has been campaigning for better treatment for people who have diabetes has welcomed a Scottish Government pledge to make insulin pumps available to more patients.
Martyn Carr, from Barrhead, told of his delight after Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon promised that a quarter of young Scots aged under 18 who have Type 1 diabetes will have access to the equipment by 2013.
The pager-shaped gadget replaces insulin injections and delivers small amounts of insulin throughout the day to ensure good glucose control, meaning people have more freedom to live their lives.

Don't envy the job of the poor s@d who has to tell the 75% of Scotttish diabetics under 18 that they can't have a pump.
How are they going to ration the pumps ? by age, by postcode, by HbA1c, by pushy parents, by which consultant you happen to have ?
