A STUDENT who has been campaigning for better treatment for people who have diabetes has welcomed a Scottish Government pledge to make insulin pumps available to more patients.
Martyn Carr, from Barrhead, told of his delight after Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon promised that a quarter of young Scots aged under 18 who have Type 1 diabetes will have access to the equipment by 2013.
The pager-shaped gadget replaces insulin injections and delivers small amounts of insulin throughout the day to ensure good glucose control, meaning people have more freedom to live their lives.
