At risk of diabetes
Hi there. Joined this group as my hubby and I are now living with my elderly parents both in their 80s.

Dad is Type 2 diabetic, Mum has high cholesterol and BP. I'm guessing I'm at risk so have decided we'll all go low carb.

Look forward to any hints and tips. Think the hardest thing for us will be reducing bread intake. I love baking so already checking out low carb cakes!

Good Morning to you and welcome to the forum.

I have an unusual type of Diabetes, so can't (=won't) have much to offer you - but wanted to at least pick up your first post. If you do need some help or understanding of your Dad's T2, you are in the right place.

I don't have to watch my carbs, but I have noticed there are several people who suggest ideas for low carb baking and @Martin62 regularly posts pics of his latest bakes, which look enticing. You'll probably find these in the Foods/Carbs forum, 4th forum down.

Feel free to join in when you see something that catches your attention, or raise a question, or just let off some steam after a challenging day. I wish you 4 cheeky people well, in what sounds like a recent new joint venture.

Welcome to the forum
I would suggest you only make slow changes if any to what your Dad has as what may be suitable for some Type 2 diabetics may not be for others because of the medication they take.
It would be useful to know what medication he is on, what his HbA1C is and how he currently manages his blood glucose and what testing he is doing as that will enable people to make appropriate suggestions.
High carb foods are obviously the things to be careful of but that still does not mean you can have no carbs.
If you like baking then there are low carb recipes to be found on sugarfreelondoner website. Some people do successfully make bread but there are some lower carb breads available in the supermarket.

If you’ve not found it already, there’s a low carb meal plan from Diabetes UK here

Does your Dad take any diabetes medication?

Good luck with trying to find sustainable and satisfactory changes to your Dad’s meal plan.
