Good morning. Sunday. Little bits and pieces to get done around the home, but otherwise I am going to spend another day looking at movies on line.

Oh. Am I supposed to write here? I went and wrote next to my logo.
So here goes again.
Good morning. Sunday today. Little bits and pieces to get done around the house, but otherwise I am going to spend another day looking at movies on line. If there is anyone out there what have you got planned for the day.
Now I am going to going to toast a slice of sour dough bread, slather it with butter and a spread of tomato paste. I dont know about calories and it is not going to help my weight.

Yep, I am going to get the hang of things. Next time I will know what to do.

Hi @Tereza and welcome. Now you have got the hang of the forum, tell us a little more about yourself and where you are in your diabetic journey. You will soon find some kindred spirits.

Tell me about this spiking things that diabetics talk of. I would gather that people with diabetes 1 keep on pricking their fingers and testing their blood. Eeeew.

You want to know something about me. How far do you want me to go.
Ok. I was born 23rd April, 1941, which means I will be 80 this coming April.
My mum tells me that I was born during the greatest air raid Malta had seen during the war.
To get away from all that noise (joke) my dad took my mum, my baby sister and I to South Africa.
At 23 I married an Englishman in Rhodesia. We had two beautiful children, a daughter and a son.
My daughter still lives in South Africa with her family, on a farm in the Hillcrest area, that halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Any ex Rhodies or South Africans out there??

Single again, I met another Englishman, a wonderful man who had been baught up in Hull. We had 23 very happy years together, after which he passed away.

The stress of loosing Graham did all kinds of nasties to my body. But it was only two years later that I was told I had diabetes 2 about three years later. Not bad realy, getting it soo late in life.

Not knowing anyone with diabetes, and not taking it seriously I was really in the dark.

Had always wanted to come to England, what I call a civilised land. And here I am, one and half years later, and very happy to be here. I just love England.

I dont realy want to talk about diabetes, but my legs and digestion are giving me trouble, so any advice would be welcome.

Great story @Tereza.

That spiking thing you refer to is all about the fact that different foods have different effects on your blood glucose. Some foods have quite a big effect and they are the spikes.

Diabetes is all about keeping your blood glucose within bounds. Normally this happens automatically by your pancreas producing the right amount of insulin at the right time but if for some reason (and there are many reasons) that system goes wrong, then your blood glucose levels can get too high for too much of the time. Untreated this can lead to complications you do not need.

On balance it is probably a good idea to think about your diabetes and maybe talk to your doctor about whether your other problems are related to it and see where you go from there.

Welcome to the forum @Tereza

We have lots of friendly folks here at various stages along their diabetes ‘journey’ and each with a unique approach to managing their diabetes, because we are all different, and diabetes affects everyone slightly differently 🙂

Feel free to ask away with any questions you have. And of you’d just like to chat and get to know each other, there’s a lively ‘Off the Subject‘ board for non-diabetes threads and conversations:

Along with a whole board of jokes and quizzes:

Hello and welcome to the forum @Tereza 🙂

Hi @Tereza, we have 2 things in common...type 2 and a partner from Hull! I'm sorry you lost your partner, that is harsh and it sounds like you've been through the mill.

Hopefully you will learn a lot from this forum and get your type 2 under control; I've learned such a lot since I joined.

Best wishes x
