Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed a type 2 diabetic four years ago, but since then I lost 60lbs. I'm now told that I'm back to pre-diabetic, but am staying on Canagliflozin as it is also supposed to have benefits for those with mild heart failure. I am 75. The diabetes has worsened my ED and I've lost the ability to get an erection even with maximum doze of Viagra or Cialis. Penis pumps provide a very temporary erection, but it almost instantly dies (in seconds). My question is - now I am only borderline diabetic, will the sensitivity return to my glans or is it lost forever? Thank you.

Welcome to the forum @Postar

Sorry to hear about your ED, and reduction in sensation.

This page has some information about the impact diabetes can have on people’s sexual health.

The neuropathy which results in reduction in sensation and blood flow can improve in some people, however, the majority of medications seem to target pain relief rather than sensation/blood flow.

Improving blood glucose management (greater stability, and aiming to be within recommended ranges for as much time as possible) does seem to reduce symptoms for some people and depending on the nature of the neuropathy can help to reduce progression, or improve things.

Do you know what your most recent HbA1c was?

I think there can be other causes as well, some blood pressure medications and ones prescribed for prostate issues so may be worth checking there is no other reason. Everything is often put down to the effects of diabetes.
