Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello everyone, my name is Gregor (60 years old) and I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the start of November last year and have just joined this forum. Started the 800 calorie a day diet in November - managed quite well (the readings were between 4 and 7 each day, it was up at 24 when I was first diagnosed) - until the Festive Period! I lost 12kg - I have another 12kg to lose - lockdown was not good for me in terms of weight gain! I have just started the 800 calorie a day diet again in an attempt to lose the other 12kg. Enjoy your weekends!

Hi Gregor and welcome.

Congrats on your fantastic weight loss so far and best of luck losing the remainder. Sounds like you are making excelled progress.

Many thanks Barbara. Getting the diagnoses was a wakeup call to start looking after body... I miss hot homemade fruit scones with clotted cream and thick strawberry jam! 😱

Thanks for that Gregor..... now I am missing them too!! 🙄

I find it easiest to find new low carb treats that I enjoy, rather than thinking about the things I can no longer have.
Maybe keep that cream scone treat for your birthday. Most people accept that it's OK to have a bit of a special treat on your birthday and when you don't have those things regularly, it makes it even more special when you do.

Keto scones made with almond flour/ground almonds on the website sugarfreelondoner. Go easy on the jam but the cream is fine.

Many thanks for the website - I have a bag of almond flour in the cupboard just waiting now to be made into scones 🙂

Many thanks Barbara for the tip... I've been eating a lot of carrot sticks when I feel peckish... I'll soon look like a carrot . My birthday is in April, so not long now, cinnamon scones made with sultanas soaked in sherry... I'm a foodie 🙄

I would have to soak them in rum rather than sherry. Less carbs in rum and tastes better in my opinion.

If you are a foodie, then consider this as an opportunity to try new things or a new spin on old things. How about a nice rib-eye steak with salad, coleslaw and celeriac chips instead of potato chips and you don't even need to wait until April for that as it is low carb.
Personally, olives and nice cheeses are one of my go to treats these days. I have olives nearly every day and so good for you but appreciate not everyone is a fan and they can be an acquired taste. Currently eating Manchego with them. Cottage pie tastes just as good topped with mashed cauliflower instead of potato and plenty of grated cheese of course. You can mash in a good dollop of cream cheese instead of butter or cream and a teaspoon of whatever mustard you like, wholegrain works well.

Welcome to the forum @GregorKilt

Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss! Sounds like your BG levels have responded really well. 🙂

Sounds like you’ll be using a smaller kilt!
