numbers have been up a little all day and just now they where at 17.7,ihad a little musli for breakfast, lunch was salad with a little ham and this evening was a prawn sandwhich, just prawns no mayo.
I think maybe i have a cold coming on as i have had a bad throat all day and keep losing my voice,i often lose my voice for no apparent reason but this feels different to that feels more sore, could this be the reason.

Hi Caroleann, infections and viruses can certainly raise blood sugar levels, so this may very well be the cause. Try to drink lots of sugar-free fluids - water preferably, and consult your doctor if it gets any worse. Hope you feel better soon.

When I was diet and exercise and then on just metformin I couldn't eat muesli at all, it would put me to sleep.. Even though I am insulin and tablets now I still try and keep away from it.

I've found breakfast cereals can be the worst to raise blood sugar. The starchy carbs in these tend to raise sugar quite quickly and keep it there a bit longer than say fruit or toast. Then i drop quite quickly again after. Does sound like a cold coming on though. Lots of sore throats etc.. at present.

People are often more insulin resistant in the morning, I know I am. Two slices of toast for breakfast is 8 units of insulin, but two slices of the same bread at lunch needs only 6 - this continues through the day.

Thankyou for your reply,i hope you dont mind but i have another question,i have been having a lot of trouble with my eyes i did mention this to the doctor and she recomended pendleburys optitions as these apparently specialise in diabets,my pc screen is on 200% and i can only see that propperly with hubby's glasses on my glasses are useless and as for reading a book not a chance just looks like black lines ,i know high numbers affect your eyes but i thought they would of got better with the new meds and my numbers being lower but they seem to be getting worse.

I think that you said recently that your numbers have been pretty high for some time? It can take quite a few weeks of much lower levels before your eyesight settles back to normal. I was the same as you for several weeks after I was diagnosed, needing the computer on magnification and a magnifying glass to read things! Eventually, my eyesight returned to normal and the optician said it was no different to my previous 2 year check so I just need reading glasses occasionally. One thing that you shouldn't do is get new glasses when your eyesight is like this as they will be no use when you get your levels down (as I know you will! Stick with us!🙂)
