my sugars have been rising all day....

I'm not sure what to do next -I woke at 9.8, injected background as normal, injected to cover my breakfast (30g special k, skimmed milk) and extra to bring levels down...tested for lunch a min ago and I'm 17.5 😱 Didn't get a chance to test an hour/two hours after breakfast as work is crazy today..
So I've injected for lunch and to try and bring myself down but I'm so confused... the last week or so I've had much more controlled numbers!

Any advice appreciated... thanks for reading another rant from me!

I had exactly the same last night Grainger - my liver just got it into its head to have a funny five minutes after a basal test and I ended up battling highs all evening. Came down fine overnight and woke to a 4.8. (any chance you went hypo overnight and missed it? That could have caused your liver to kick off...)

Keep an eye out to see if it's the start of a pattern/warmer weather/moon in venus but if not you just have to write these off as occasional annoyances.

Can't help much but now it's got hotter my levels play up no end. Everyone else seems to go up in hot weather but I'm so-and-so different - I go hypo !

Hi H,
just a sugestion for you. Have you checked to make sure your pen/s are working correctly and the insulin? If nr the end of a vial perhaps change it as it's been very hot the last couple of days so might have affected the potency.

I had this last week. It transpired I had a cracked Levemir cartridge. Examine your pens carefully and check whether the plunger is actually in contact with the cartridge.

Hey all,

Sue, Pattidevans, I'd never even thought of that - definitely something I'll keep more of an eye on in future, thank you. Unfortunately, I have checked my pens and the insulin - all seems fine. Have managed to get my levels to 9 now but they seem determined not to go lower... Will keep trying until bed 🙂

Vince13, I hope your levels don't cause you too much bother because of the weather! And I hope you don't have many hypos.

Everydayupsanddowns I hope you don't have a weird one again tonight and things are better for you today. I think I'm going to have to assume todays has been a weird one due to the moon in venus 🙂

Thank you all 🙂

You ain't weird Vince - I go hypo when it's hot too.

It is therefore utterly normal, mate - cos I just don't do abnormal LOL

And Grainger - I was in the stratosphere for 36 hours (high teens up to mid 20's, ketones and felt absolutely dire) and tried everything else then lobbed the insulin I was currently using and started with new - and was fine again after about 2 hours.

I don't know what else to do!!! I can't get below 9mmol :(

I have changed both my insulins, doubled up on insulin this morning and last night and I'm still at 9....

Anyone got any other ideas?!

Could be an underlying infection - might not be strong enough to produce symptoms but strong enough to boost your insulin resistance.

Have you tried combining insulin with exercise? Or have you considered a temporary cutback in carbs to get you back to normal levels?

Hi,
I have done some more exercise today, didn't chance anything for a while until randomly at 5pm on the dot I had a hypo! Can't quite work out why but thankfully now by sugars are sitting at the 5ish range so I'm happy again 🙂

Let's just see what tonight brings!

🙂 thanks for all the help and advice, this forum really is a massive help 🙂

Thats Life ? You could spend lots of time trying to work it all out. Pleased its seems to be going right now 😉
