i take it the fruit is too high? and the cornbeed is fine?!!
what do i need to look for on products while shopping please??

thanx so much

Corned beef won't raise your blood sugar levels like the fruit salad would, but that doesn't mean you can't have the fruit! Make sure you buy in fruit juice and not syrup. I don't have the actual jiuce, just the fruit. If you eat it as part of your main meal then this will lower the effect, as the other food will slow the digestion and conversion to glucose in the blood.

Have a look at Diabetes UK's virtual supermarket tour, should give you an idea of what to look out for 🙂

It depends on whether you are solely trying to low carb or whether you are also trying to lose weight. Corned beef is quite high in fat.

I buy 3 for ?10 chickens (Morrisons or Co-op) and cook them one at a time in the microwave (28 mins in my Panasonic with Grill, convection and microwave). I then have a portion of chicken (breast size, chicken that is), a few broad beans, a few walnuts, a piece of bacon and a little light salad cream for lunch. The chicken then lasts about 5 days. (P.S. the dog gets the skin!).
Sometimes I will have tinned salmon with broad beans and salad cream.

It gets very tiring weighing things out - I only weigh my breakfast cereal as it's all too easy to pour too much into your bowl.
If you can test your BG then thats the best way to see what food does what to you. I found cutting out bread was a good start, followed by cutting down on potatoes. Pasta does not seem too bad especially in moderation.

Always worth considering portion size - a slice of corned beef weighs about 20g (although depends on how thick you cut it from a tin), whereas it would be very easy to eat 100g of fruit salad in one go.

Fruit is fine, in moderation. Bread, Rice, Pasta,Potatoes are full of carbs, and baked beans, crisps etc. Veg, salads, meat, fish are low in carbs. good luck. sheena

I would recommend you get the Collins Gem Carb Counter Book as it is a good guide to what is in different types of foods, e.g. carbs, fibre, sugar etc.
