Can I ask those Type 2 who went from tablets and diet control onto insulin, how did you get on at first with insulin? My BG is getting out of control, medication and diet control no longer working, I blame levothyroxine

Honestly, best thing to happen to me was going on insulin.
Just log everything early on and be sure to ask the prescriber how and when to adjust your insulins yourself (they might tell you to wait but make it known you want to be able to take control of that yourself.)

Very likely you will be put on once a day "background" insulin.

The link shows you insulin profiles and its good to know what one you are on and how it works.

IF they want to put you on mixed right away, consider asking for short and long acting insulin separately as its far more flexible with life but T2 pathways usually start on background first.
The idea of long acting only is to take the background load off and your home grown insulin can take care of mealtimes.
It helped me but wasn't enough for me so ended up on long and short acting insulins.

From a forums standpoint, its helpful to put your insulins into your signature so any questions are answered appropriately and safely and always know your insulin name and any letters that come after it 🙂

You WILL need to inform DVLA if you drive and make sure to carry hypo treatments wherever you go.

Ask any question that pop into your head but know all dosing questions need to be directed to your prescriber.

Ggood luck and honestly hope it provides some relief for you.

Just started this week, am staying in meds and adding insulin, bloods first few days were everywhere but last two mornings are slightly more down.

I went straight onto basal bolus (seperate short and long insulins) with carb counting to adjust my short acting doses myself when I started insulin, so it was a lot to take in at first, but usually t2 start on once a day background insulin. Insulin is the best thing I’ve ever used too.

Have you been advised that it will be insulin you move onto or not? There are other injected medicines that are usually tried before insulin, and lots of tablets that are usually tried first too.

hi, I went from 240 tablets a month to 2 day and insulin, its taken a while for my bloods to calm down (I think it needed time to flush out 5 years of tablets) but im down to single figures most days now, once you get into a routine, you will be glad you've moved to insulin, its a big step, obviously, but when you see your sugar levels come down you will feel elated, one bit of advice I got from my specialist, don't beat yourself up if you get the odd high reading, we have weird bodies, it just happens sometime, best of luck to you, hope it goes well.

Hope it goes well @rosalindb

Let us know how things go. 🙂
