I was having a talk with a friend yesterday and we were discussing goals for the upcoming year. I never do resolutions as such as I never stick to them, but goals which are achievable are good to work towards throughout the year so you can progressively achieve them.

I wanted to share mine and see if anyone else wanted to share theirs, I've split mine into three areas, but don't feel you have to disclose goals that ,might be too personal for you, and feel free to split yours into areas of your choice.

Mine are:

Personal:
1. Continue to work hard at carb counting, lowering carb intake, using my libre effectively and bring down my HbA1C further.

2. I lost my passion for reading over the last few years, I want to set a target of reading 1 new book per month.

3. To go for a walk everyday to help introduce more exercise into my life.

Finances/Money:

1. To further build up my savings, so I have access to it as and when needed and in an emergency to cover an unexpected expense.

Career/Professional Development:

1. Start some more studying, not necessarily in an area related to job/career/development, but in an area I have an interest in, for me that is Criminology and History.

@MarkGeordie I love the idea. I think putting these things out there encourages us to try and achieve them.

Mine are:
1/ Get my weight down to normal (BMI < 25)
2/ Try and get off metformin
3/ Keep up the exercise - indoor cycling and yoga but add in some core strength work as well
4/ Get back into photography - If the tiers ever disappear I would love to do some wedding photography
5/ Expand my cookery skills. Last year I worked through Bread, Malaysian, Mexican and Middle Eastern cook books as well as several Tom Kerridge books. I'm currently working through a Thai cookbook.

Item 2 - me too - weird, cos ever since my dad finally succeeded in teaching me to read when I was nearly 6, prior to approx 4 years ago I'd never ceased. Clueless why.

My resolution for 2020 was to eat more lettuce (for Vit A). As it turned out, I succeeded magnificently, eating lettuce almost every day.

There's something to be said for setting a low bar 🙂

However, for 2021 I'm biting the bullet & committing to weights and strength training, after some pointed comments from "friends" at the beach this summer. Apparently people have problems with the stick-figure look and I suppose I should do something about it. Strength training is hugely boring but I guess it's just a matter of getting in the habit of it, like shaving or recycling. I've even joined a gym ...

1. Last year I started a #walk1000miles challenge. Because of an injury, lockdown and then an illness in November, I “only” got to 865. This is just actually going out for a walk on purpose challenge. This year I’m trying it again, done 15 miles already.

2. I love reading and my goal for the last two years has been to read 100 books a year. I’ve finished on 83 for the last two years, I’m determined to do it this year!

3. Climb more Wainwrights, scuppered last year by lockdown and only got a couple done. So far on 204....left to do! 😉
4. Keep myself and Mr Eggy Covid free.

I lost my way a bit with reading last year, I couldn’t concentrate with everything that was going on, would read a page or two then check the news sites etc etc. Finally gave myself a shake and read everyday, maybe just before bed or sometimes all afternoon.

I have something similar - there is a monthly cycle challenge which is bronze at 50 miles, silver at 100 miles and gold at 150 miles. If I do gold each month it will be over 1800 miles in the year

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. I'm determined to reach my goals, become healthier and be far more productive this year so I'm not wasting one moment.

Obviously, not to catch Covid, is probably one everyone would agree with, but as long as I follow the rules and minimise all contact, which I have been doing, than hopefully I wont catch it but there's no guarantee with this one, Life happens.

My grandad inspired me to do more reading, he is passionate about this area, its basically a huge part of his life. He reads on average 2-3, 300-500 paged books per week, so that's anywhere up to 156 books a year, I don't think id ever get that far but I do want to increase it from where it is now.

I could have rivalled him quite easily for much of my life. Used to go to the library on Saturday mornings. On Sunday I'd have to stop so I had summat to read for the first part of the week. And then fume until Saturday again.

Got less and less after I moved here - not a decent library in striking distance. All the years I worked in Brum I'd spend several lunch hours a week in Hudsons/Waterstones and at least 1 in Waterstones when I worked in Coventry. Then we bought a motorhome and since it was always a matter of ducking when we got wherever and opened the book locker (as they were all 'high' lockers) we both invested in Kindles, but haven't even plugged either in and charged them let alone downloaded any in recent memory.

Will have to see if they still work ..... and then access the free booklist again on the net.

I am reading or should say trying to read a proper book, and also reading another one on my Kindle. The proper book is Caption Corelli's Mandolin, the print is really small so not easy to read, I am used to being able to adjust the size of the font on the Kindle.

My goals are to get out of hospital, manage to wipe my own bum again without toppling over, get of oxygen and get my life back.
Once I do that probably have the same goals as last year to wash up dishes before go to bed and to do at least one cleaning task a day.
