Hi there
I'm trying to find out if anyone has had any experience of using a glucowatch to monitor their blood sugar levels.
My dad is an IDDM and is having some serious lows which he is seemingly unaware of.
Ive been reading about this gluco watch and feel it may be of benefit to help him physically see what his sugar levels are doing.
Its such a worry that he really doesnt have any signs of having a hypo.
Any advice greatly received- i'd love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance
Laura x🙂

There's a thread about them in the Parents forum. Not altogether positive comments.

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum 🙂 I don't have any personal experience of them, but I have yet to hear a good word to be said about them. From all accounts they are not very reliable, I'm afraid. If they worked as you would hope then I think they would be flying off the shelves. The alternative is a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor), but they are extremely expensive I'm afraid.

It sounds like your dad would benefit from running his blood sugar levels a little higher than normal so that he regains his hypo awareness. Do his hypos happen at any particular time? What insulin does he use?

Have to agree with northener if they worked I think everyone would have them. Also agree to run sugars a little bit higher for a little while and would add regular testing also .
